Abercrombie & Fitch / Heuer Solunar History:
The Solunar is a multi-purpose watch made by Heuer, along with the Heuer Mareograph, for those who wanted to know periods of high and low tides, such as boaters and fisherman. The watch first sold in 1949, and was very useful for those who subscribed to the Solunar Theroy for hunting and fishing. The Solunar Theory was developed in 1926 by John Alden Knight, and contends that fish and other wildlife are most active and feeding at times that can be predicted, based on the relationship of the moon, sun and tides. He chose the name Solunar (pronounced soh-loo-ner) because his theory tracks solar (sun) and lunar (moon) times as they relate to hunting and fishing. Knight published a long list of Solunar Tables that hunters and fisherman could use to increase their chances of success. The Heuer Solunar design replaced the tedious use of long written tables and puts the Solunar information directly on the hunter's wrist. Abercrombie & Fitch partnered with Heuer to retail this revolutionary watch in their stores, and those watches were branded with the A&F name, as is this watch. For those who do not know the history of Abercrombie & Fitch, they started in 1892 as an upscale sporting goods store, and were a prominent outfitter for campers, outdoorsman, hunters, fisherman, etc. A&F outfitted Charles Lindbergh for his famous flight across the Atlantic. Today, vintage Abercrombie & Fitch watches made by Heuer are some of the most sought after collectible vintage watches, with values continuing to increase over time.

Made for Abercrombie & Fitch by Heuer and in great original condition for a 70 year old watch. Honest aging on this rare model all stainless steel Solunar, with original dial, stainless steel case and Valjoux 90.1 manual wind movement. For those who enjoy how natural patina creates a beautiful and unique watch.

Case Material: Stainless steel two piece screw-back case. Original Crown. The right pusher is used to set the tidal dial. Case back still has original factory swirl pattern and has a light 3 letter engraving.
Dial Detail: Original and not modified two tone dial with original multi-color Solunar rotating register dial. Eggshell textured dial with fantastic natural patina. Original luminous hands have been patched with custom color match and can be re-lumed at the customer's request.
